At Civic Impact Alliance, we believe that youth voter registration is essential to a vibrant, democratic community. Engaging young citizens not only cultivates an informed electorate but also sparks transformative community initiatives. By registering to vote, young adults begin a journey of responsibility, empowerment, and active citizenship—an essential step toward addressing local challenges and influencing key decision-makers in regions like Birmingham and beyond.
The Civic Impact Alliance 2026 Youth and Young Adult Voter Registration Explosion is a collaborative nonpartisan civic engagement initiative sponsored by the Communication Workers of America and the Birmingham Federation of Teachers. The purpose of this initiative is to help eligible young people, aged 17½ and above, get informed, registered, and ready to vote in upcoming elections.
Through this project, participants will receive guided support to complete the voter registration process and will also take part in a mock Election Day experience. This interactive simulation walks students through each step of voting—from receiving and completing a ballot to securely casting it—helping them gain confidence and understanding of their civic role.
Multiple high schools throughout the Birmingham metropolitan region will take part in the initiative. Our goal is to create a consistent, accessible, and impactful voter education experience for our youth across the region.
Both CWA and Birmingham AFT are proud to collaborate with school superintendents, school board members, and nonpartisan community-based organizations who have already committed their time, expertise, and resources to support this effort. Their leadership is helping ensure the success and sustainability of this initiative.
We invite all community organizations, nonprofits, civic groups, faith-based organizations, and local leaders to partner with us by:
